On July 26th, 2021, the opening ceremony of the first summer camp for outstanding undergraduates was held online by Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (SIAR), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

Chu Jiaru, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of USTC and Executive Dean of Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (SIAR), Tu Jing, member of the Preparatory Working Group of the Party Committee of SIAR, Ni Rui, Deputy Director of the Graduate School of USTC and member of the Preparatory Working Group of the Party Committee of SIAR, Shen Yan, member of the Administration Faculty of SIAR and Deputy Director of Scientific and Technological Innovation Bureau of Dushu Lake Science & Education Innovation Zone (DLSEIZ) of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), Teng Wendong, Director of Scientific and Technological Innovation Bureau of DLSEIZ of SIP, Li Jun, member of the Working Group of SIAR, Zhou Shaohua and Pan Ting Rui, professors of USTC, Wang Yang, Vice Dean of the School of Software Engineering of USTC, Wu Junmin, Director of Finance Department of SIAR, Su Yude and Liu Dong, Special Research Professors of the SIAR, and Sun Juan, Assistant President of Suzhou Dushu Lake Entrepreneurship University attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Tu Jing.

The participants watched the message to the students from Professor Shu Gequn, Secretary of the Party Committee of USTC, Academician Bao Xinhe, President of USTC, Academician Pan Jianwei, Executive Vice President of USTC, and Academician Yang Jinlong, Vice President of USTC.

On behalf of all the students and faculty, Chu Jiaru, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of USTC and Executive Dean of Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (SIAR), expressed his warm welcome to all the students and led them to go over General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest expectations for the youth of China in the new era.

Then, the participants collectively enjoyed the light show for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Teng Wendong, Director of Scientific and Technological Innovation Bureau of DLSEIZ of SIP, introduced the development of SIP from the perspectives of geographical location, historical status, economic strength, administrative division, industrial development profile and talent development environment.

After participants watching the introduction video of SIAR. Ni Rui, Deputy Director of the Graduate School of USTC and member of the Preparatory Working Group of the Party Committee of SIAR, introduced the situation of graduate education in China University of Science and Technology, and introduced SIAR from the aspects of organization structure, discipline development, talent team development, student enrollment, campus construction and future planning in detail.

The successful opening ceremony marked the official start of the first summer camp for outstanding undergraduates in SIAR of USTC in 2021. It will be followed by a range of colorful online activities such as academic lectures, faculty-student exchange sessions and interviews, which will fully exhibit the charm of Suzhou Institute of Advanced Research and bring unforgettable and wonderful experience to all campers.
