On the afternoon of 7 April 2025, Rongyu Li, Executive Vice Chancellor of The University of Queensland (UQ), led a delegation to visit the Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research, University of Science and Technology of China (SIAR, USTC), and the two sides held a symposium in the conference room of the Weizhen Building, Ren'ai Road Campus. The meeting was attended by Academician Lei Jiang, Dean of the School of Nanoscience and Technology, Professor Shaohua Zhou, Executive Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, and Ni Rui, Associate Dean of the USTC Graduate School and Associate Dean of SIAR. The meeting was chaired by Prof Cheng Qunfeng, Head of the School of Nanoscience and Technology.
At the symposium, Prof. Jiang Lei welcomed the UQ delegation on behalf of the USTC. He reviewed the foundation of cooperation between the two universities in nanotechnology, biomedicine and other fields, and stressed the importance of deepening international scientific research cooperation. Rongyu Li suggested that in the future, with the resources of the government and key enterprises, the joint PhD training of the two universities could be promoted to participate in industrial internships and business incubation. The two sides then discussed the joint doctoral training program and exchanged views on the admission process and the matching mechanism of supervisors.
This symposium contributes to the cultivation of international high-end talents and gives new impetus to the deepening of strategic cooperation between the two universities.
