On November 27, Li Rongyu, Vice President of the University of Queensland, and Alan Rowan, Laureate Fellow of the Australian Research Council (ARC), Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and Director of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, paid a visit to Suzhou Institute of Advanced Research (SIAR). They were favorably received by Xue Tian, Assistant President of USTC; Qu Kun, Minister of the Office of International Cooperation; Zhou Shaohua, Executive Dean of Biomedical Engineering College; and Xu Xiaorong, Director of the Human Resources Department of SIAR, at the symposium, which was chaired by Zhang Jie, Member of the United States National Academy of Engineering.

In welcoming UQ's second visit, Xue Tian expressed his hope to give full play to the advantages of the two universities in personnel training, promote cooperation in high-end personnel training, scientific research and industrial transformation, as well as exchanges between China and Australia.

Prof. Li Rongyu expressed his sincere intention to cooperate with USTC and build a global high-end talent training base, research center for frontier applied science, and innovation and transformation base of advanced materials and biotechnology.

Subsequently, Qu Kun briefed the delegation on USTC and SIAR's discipline construction, personnel training, scientific research and international cooperation.

The meeting allowed the two sides to conduct in-depth discussions on the mode of cooperation, joint training of students, cooperation in scientific research projects, and transformation of industrial achievements.


The delegation was also impressed by SIAR’s exhibition hall, the multi-modal diagnosis and treatment engineering laboratory, the construction site of the scientific research center and CAS’ Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics.
