On March 30-31, a delegation led by Prof. Chengqi Zhang, Vice-Chancellor at University of Technology Sydney (UTS), visited Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research. The delegation includes Prof. Dayong Jin at UTS, Academician of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE), Prof. Jeffrey Reimers at UTS, Academician of the Australian Academy of Science, Professor Huanting Wang at Monash University, Academician of ATSE, and other 7 experts and scholars from Australia.
On the afternoon of March 30, SIAR and the delegation held a meeting at the Ruoshui Road Campus. Chu Jiaru, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of USTC and Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Dean of SIAR, Zang Jianye, Deputy Director of Division of Life Sciences and Medicine and Executive Dean of School of Life Sciences, Zhou Shaohua, Executive Dean of School of Biomedical Engineering, Wu Huihui, Deputy Director of Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee (SIPAC), and Professor Pan Tingrui, Xu Xiaorong, and Tian Changlin attended the meeting.

Prof. Zhou Shaohua introduced the discipline development, teaching staff, talent training and campus construction of USTC and SIAR, and gave a detailed introduction to the discipline and scientific research progress of the School of Biomedical Engineering. Prof. Zang Jianye, on behalf of Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, expressed his support for the proposed cooperation with the visiting delegation.

Prof. Stella Valenzuela, Director of the IDEAL Hub Research Center at UTS, introduced the scientific research cooperation, discipline development, college settings and other aspects of UTS.

On behalf of SIAR, Prof. Chu extended welcome to the academicians and scholars. He further introduced the strategic planning and goals of SIAR. He believed this meeting with academicians and UTS delegation could empower both parties to explore the common characteristics in talent training and scientific research, and establish an efficient partnership in the long run.

Academician Dayong Jin expressed his gratitude to SIAR for its warm hospitality. He said that the USTC is a well-known university in the world, and UTS needs to conduct exchanges with USTC in many aspects. This visit to SIAR has promoted mutual understanding between the two universities enhanced the basis for mutual cooperation. He also introduced the plan for cooperation and exchange with SIAR.

Prof. Pan Tingrui, Prof. Xu Xiaorong, Prof. Majid E. Warkiani, and Associate Professor Yuen Yee Cheng shared their academic research and achievements in related fields. The two sides also had in-depth discussions on jointly building a research center and training graduate students.

On the evening of March 30, Zhang Qiao, Vice Mayor of Suzhou, met with academician Dayong Jin and his party. On March 31, accompanied by the colleagues of SIAR, the delegation visited the Suzhou Industrial Park Exhibition Center, BioBAY Biomedicine Exhibition Hall, etc., and they were deeply impressed by Suzhou and SIAR.
