To enhance the understanding of the history and culture of USTC and strengthen cooperation between university and local government, on February 21 and 22, Shen Jian, Secretary of the Education Party Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and Director of the Education Bureau, Chen Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District and Director of the Management Committee, Wu Huihui, Deputy Director of the Management Committee and the delegation visited USTC. They were accompanied by Chu Jiaru, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of USTC, and Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Dean of SIAR, and Ni Rui, Vice President of the Graduate School of USTC and Vice President of SIAR.

At noon on Feb. 21, President Bao Xinhe met with Director Shen Jian and his delegation. Bao expressed his gratitude to the Suzhou Industrial Park for its support to USTC. He hoped that the delegation would learn more about the history and development of USTC during their stay at the University. In order to make greater contributions to the industrial development of Suzhou and the discipline construction of USTC, both parties will continue to explore new path for strengthening cooperation. Director Shen Jian introduced the layout and development of education of Suzhou Industrial Park. Director Chen Li introduced the integration of production, education and research in Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District, and expressed that the District would continue to support the development of USTC in Suzhou.

Afterwards, Shen Jian and his entourage visited the History Museum of USTC and School of the Gifted Young, heard about the history of USTC over the past 65 years, and learned about the spirit of the older generation of scientists such as Yan Jici and Qian Xuesen in pursuing excellence and serving the country through science and education.

On the afternoon of Feb 21, the delegation visited the Basic Education Group of USTC accompanied by Ma Yunsheng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Group, Tang Sheng, Deputy Director, and other leaders. The delegation visited the Data Center, Science and Technology Innovation Center, Calligraphy Classrooms, Rehearsal Halls, Laboratories, Recording and Broadcasting Classrooms, and Psychological Consultation Rooms of the High School Affiliated to USTC. Shen Jian expressed his appreciation for the philosophy and achievements of making full use of scientific and educational resources and deepening the cooperation between basic education and higher education. He hopes that the two sides will carry out multi-directional and multi-level exchanges and cooperation in the future to promote the talent training of both sides.

On the morning of Feb 22, Chen Li and her entourage, accompanied by Chu Jiaru, visited Academician E Weinan. The two sides had a full exchange on the introduction of talents and discipline construction in the field of artificial intelligence and data science. Professor Yang Zhouwang, Deputy Dean of the School of Mathematics, participated in the discussion.

Afterwards, Chen Li and her entourage communicated with Cheng Linzhao, Director of the Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, Wang Yucai, Deputy Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, and Prof. Tian Changlin and Prof. Liu Haiyan at the School of Life Sciences, West Campus, USTC. Cheng Linzhao introduced the development of the Division of Life Sciences and Medicine. Professors made suggestions on the introduction of talents, student training and platform construction of the School of Biomedical Engineering in Suzhou. The two sides discussed how to advance the work in combination with Suzhou’s industrial background.

During the visit, Deputy Director Wu Huihui led the staff in charge of asset management of SIAR to communicate with Zhao Gang, Director of the Assets and Logistics Support Division, and Gu Tao, Director of the Security Division, on logistics, general affairs, and asset management.
