In order to promote the development of management and business discipline, on February 8, SIAR held an online seminar on management discipline construction. Prof. Chu Jiaru, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of USTC, AND Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Dean of SIAR, Prof. Ye Qiang, Executive Dean of the School of Management, USTC, and Dean of the International Institute of Finance, Prof. Tu Jing, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of SIAR, USTC, and Prof. Weng Qingxiong, Deputy Dean of the International Institute of Finance attended the meeting. It was chaired by Ni Rui, Vice President of the Graduate School of USTC and Vice President of SIAR.
Prof. Weng Qingxiong first expounded the vision of the future construction and development of management and business disciplines in Suzhou, pointing out that we should continue to strengthen cooperation in MBA and EMBA programs and promote the construction of the disciplines. He briefly introduced the key work in 2023, including the layout of disciplines, the introduction of talent, the construction of management teams, the incentive mechanism for talents, the improvement of the quality of students, the development of academic forums, and the building of Suzhou Science and Technology Business College. He emphasized that management and business are one of the four major disciplines planned and constructed by SIAR, and the collaboration of the School of Management, USTC and SIAR lays solid foundation for the development of the disciplines.
Ye Qiang said that on the basis of the previous communication, he had a preliminary understanding of the situation in Suzhou. He believed that Suzhou, as a vibrant city with a developed industrial economy, is undoubtedly a suitable area for business studies. We should make full use of the early development of management disciplines in Suzhou, take advantage of Suzhou’s unique conditions and opportunities, and leverage the resources of the School of Management, so as to build a management and business talent team in Suzhou. The establishment of Suzhou Science and Technology Business College is also a manifestation of the influence of USTC Science and Technology Business College.
Discussions were held on discipline construction, specific matters of the work of Suzhou Science and Technology Business College, and the communication mechanism between the two parties to enhance mutual understanding. Ni Rui pointed out that according to the changes in the actual situation of the development of management disciplines, the focus on talent training should be gradually shifted to discipline construction. Tu Jing hoped that Suzhou Science and Technology Business College could become a characteristic part of the management and business construction in the future. Weng Qingxiong proposed to establish a talent introduction committee, strengthen the administrative management team, build a scientific research laboratory, and set up a mature incentive mechanism for teaching and scientific research.
Chu Jiaru emphasized that SIAR is currently ushering in a new stage of development. The construction of management and business disciplines is an integral part of the Institute’s management discipline construction. On the one hand, by gathering talents in management disciplines, it can enrich the talent team of the School of Management, and on the other hand, it can play a role in promoting the social and economic development of Suzhou. The School of Management and SIAR cooperate with each other, the former planning the discipline construction and the latter providing support. It is hoped that the Science and Technology Business College will be integrated into the development framework of management and business in Suzhou.
The meeting agreed on the importance of strengthening exchanges and communication, clarified the measures to develop the disciplines, including discipline positioning, talent team building, student training, scientific research, hardware conditions, etc., and set goals to accelerate the construction progress.
