On the morning of November 25th, the opening ceremony for 2022 Dushu Forum and the 2nd Youth Academic Forum was held online and offline by Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (SIAR), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Present at the ceremony were Ni Qian, member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), Zhou Shaohua, Executive Dean of School of Biomedical Engineering of SIAR, Chair Prof. Pan Tingrui, Yangtze River Scholar, Tu Jing and Nirui, Vice Directors of SIAR, Wu Huihui, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Dushu Lake Science & Education Innovation Zone (DLSEIZ), Yan Haiqing, Director of University Cooperation Department of DLSEIZ, Zhan Yuehong, member of the Working Group of SIAR, Wang Yang, Vice Dean of School of Software Engineering of USTC and SIAR teachers and students. Online participants included youth scholars from such universities or institutes as University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, Max Planck Institute, National University of Singapore. The ceremony was hosted by Xu Xiaorong, director of HR department of SIAR.

The ceremony kicked off at 8:00 a.m. Chu Jiaru, on behalf of the faculty and students of SIAR, extended warm welcome to young talent from all over the world. In his speech, he expressed that SIAR, with its favorable location and pioneering spirit, will provide a broad platform for youth to display their talent by offering first-class experimental equipment and creating first-class research environment. He welcomed the youth to join this excellence-oriented institute.

Ni Qian delivered a speech on behalf of SIP, where he introduced the history between USTC and Suzhou and the strong comprehensive strength of SIP. He said that among China’s development zones, SIP ranked first in the total number of talents for several years in a row and won several national-level titles in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. He welcomed scholars to SIP to pursue their dreams.

Yan Haiqing and Xu Xiaorong introduced the city of Suzhou and SIAR respectively, from which audiences understood the favorable policies and services for talents in SIAR, the fine academic traditions of USTC and the promising future of SIAR.

On the ceremony, youth staff lately employed by SIAR shared their feelings from their own perspectives and said that it was a wise choice to join SIAR.

Followed were reports by five academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and one Distinguished ACM member, which were refreshing and beneficial to the audience.

On November 26, eight sessions of academic presentations were held, including sensing and devices, imaging and intelligence, biomedicine, nanotechnology and advanced materials, data science and artificial intelligence, management and business, and alumni industry. Young scholars from world-renowned universities and research institutions as well as distinguished alumni gave presentations on their respective fields. Lakeside salons, roundtables and online cinemas were also arranged to introduce the history, talent policies and living environment of USTC and Suzhou. The scholars exchanged ideas, enhanced mutual understanding and discussed cooperation through positive interactions.

At 6:00 PM on November 26, the 2022 Dushu Forum and the 2nd Youth Academic Forum of SIAR came to a successful conclusion. This forum has enhanced young talents' understanding of USTC, SIAR and Suzhou and expanded the academic influence of SIAR, laying a solid foundation for the next step of talent introduction.
