On July 10th, the construction of Suzhou Foreign Academician Workstation gained approval, applied by Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (SIAR), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The approved foreign academician workstation is based on Academician Kim Meow LIEW and his team as well as the team of University of Science and Technology of China-City University of Hong Kong Joint Laboratory of Environmental Science and Technology, focusing on the research, development and application of environmental and green energy materials.
Kim Meow LIEW Foreign Academician Workstation of Suzhou Institute of Advanced Research, University of Science and Technology of China was awarded plaques
Academician Kim Meow LIEW is a Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, a Chair Professor of City University of Hong Kong, and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Also, he is the Dean of the Graduate School of City University of Hong Kong and the Director of the Center for Bionic Engineering of City University of Hong Kong. His main research interests are the mechanical behavior of nanocomposites, covering computational mechanics, multiscale modeling, functional materials and structures, system optimization and fire science, etc. He has published more than 800 papers in top international journals and accumulated more than 40,000 citations.
Academician Kim Meow LIEW (Chinese Name: 刘锦茂)
The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have a long-standing and profound relationship. On June 13th, 2004, the two universities signed an agreement in Suzhou Industrial Park to establish the University of Science and Technology of China-City University of Hong Kong Joint Advanced Research Center (Suzhou). During the past 18 years, focusing on the cooperation in scientific research and joint training of doctoral students, the two universities achieved a number of internationally important research results, and jointly trained 332 doctoral graduates. LIEW's team has jointly trained more than 100 PhD students with the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, the School of Engineering Science, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and other schools at USTC, and 23 PhD students have been trained by Academician LIEW as their supervisor.
