On January 15th, the Symposium on the Development of Bionic Nanomaterials Program was held in the Lecture Hall on the fifth floor of the Faculty and Students Center in the East Campus of USTC. The symposium was attended by Shu Gequn, Secretary of the USTC Party Committee, Bao Xinhe, USTC President and Academician of CAS, Pan Jianwei, Standing President of USTC and Academician of CAS, Chu Jiaru, Executive Director of SIAR, Yu Shuhong, Academician of CAS from School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Xue Tian, Manager of Human Resource Department and Liu Shiyong, Executive Dean of School of Chemistry and Materials Science. The research team led by Jiang Lei, Academician of CAS, also attended the seminar. The meeting was presided over by Du Jiangfeng, Academician of CAS, Member of the Standing Committee of the USTC Party Committee, USTC Vice-President.
Academician Jiang Lei spoke at the meeting. He elaborated on the idea of the construction of nanoscience and technology program at USTC from the aspects of discipline, personnel, platform, etc., and shared the conception and vision of this program. Members in the team led by Academician Jiang Lei introduced their research directions respectively. Academician Jiang said that the university should take full advantage of all kinds of resources, bring in top talents from home and abroad and promote the development of the program, endeavoring to foster the nanoscience and technology program into a world-wide top-class program within 5 to 10 years.
At the meeting, the experts were engaged in an in-depth discussion on the conception and relevant research directions put forward by Academician Jiang Lei.
President Bao Xinhe spoke highly of the research achievements and academic influence of Academician Jiang Lei in the field of bionic nanoscience, together with his perspectives and suggestions on the introduction of talents, the development of the discipline and the construction of the platform in the field of nanoscience and technology. At the same time, President Bao Xinhe thanked Academician Jiang Lei for his strong support.
Shu Gequn expressed his appreciation for Academician Jiang Lei's conception of discipline construction. He emphasized that the introduction of talents and the team building are the cornerstones of discipline construction. Academician Jiang Lei has a good research foundation and academic advantage in relevant research areas, which in Shu’s expectation, will further promote the development of relevant disciplines at USTC. He also pointed out that USTC will strive to provide a good academic and life environment for personnel of all types to display their talents.
